After everything is running stable, I will duplicate my settings in the UEFI, where they should be. If, for some reason that doesn't happen, I can always boot into safe mode and disable it. One, I'm doing it to test it more easily, to see the temps and two, if I crash, it will boot up with it's defaults back on. I know it should be done in the BIOS/UEFI, but I did it this way for two reasons. All the tweaking thus far has been done in Windows Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I have XMP enabled on the mobo and Speedstep and Turbo Boost mode enabled. Do you guys think I can hit at least 4.8 or 5 GHz on this thing? Normal gaming conditions running at 4.6 GHz, I see up to maybe, 73C max. Now I'm idling at 30C and the coolest I've seen it was 27C on a much cooler day and I think that's about as cool as it will get with air-cooling.

That lowered the number down from 102C full load to about 76C full load. I'd love to get 5 GHz, but is that possible on air? My CPU was too hot running with the stock with Turbo Boost enabled and was reaching 102C and that's when I bought the CM Hyper 212 EVO. Bear in mind, this is with using the default voltage. Ran some stress tests, seem fine and then I' played SWTOR for a few hours. First, I believe I'm stable running at 4.6 GHz.

So right now I'm using Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility to get things going and set and then when I've got a stable OC, then I can just input the settings into the UEFI. I was fortunate and I'm overly careful, maybe too careful. The CPU's seem more resilient now, but back in the early 2000's, ppl were breaking cores mounting their HSF's. The main stuff I need help with is the voltage settings. I'm familiar with O/Cing, I just need a refresher. My 4970k was running up to 102C at full load using the stock HSF. So I just got the CM Hyper 212 EVO along with the Samsung 850 EVO. OK, a little irrelevant history and if you don't care, then just skip to the next paragraph. This is my current config.ģ2GB DDR3 1600 G.Skill Ripjaws X Series RAM I stopped with the Q6600 and had 3 or 4 more CPUs since them. I've been O/Cing since the Pentium III 800 MHz. Everything is still new to me and I love it however, I've wanted to tinker with O/Cing my CPU. Hi, I've had this build.well the CPU, Mobo, and RAM for a little over a year, my GTX 1070 for about 7 months.
